Barrence Whitfield is unfortunately one of very few
black rockers of the younger generation musicians who today are more into contemporary Hip Hop & RīnīB,
than hitting it hard with the roots of RockīnīRoll.
Since Boston-born Barrence Whitfield and his band the Savages hit the scene with their first LP in 1984, theyīve
been going down like a storm at fans of genuine rockīnīroll & rhythmīnīblues of the golden 50īs era.
Barrence voice and sound has always had little extra rawness and primitive wilderness only black vocals in the
early rockīnīroll and soul-tradition could come up with.
To connect him to the drive and energy people like Little Richard, Screamin jay Hawkins, Wyonnie Harris, Roy Brown
and other more obscure black rockīnīroll-singers had in those days would be no mistake.
Barrence is also special for his kind, breaking musical barriers not many other black artists have done before him.
After his heyday with the Savages, he went doing roots-country and cowboy ballads on 2 albums with Americana-artist
Tom Russel + doing more RīnīRoll shows with several backing-groups in Europe.
In the recent years, hes been part of the more Blues-orientated group Mercy Brothers that also featured super-guitarist
Michael Danello and norwegian wonderboy Vidar Busk, but now his real fired-up rockīnīroll-roots are calling him back.
He has found great plaesure in working with his new backing-band, THE SEATSNIFFERS, who for over a decade has been one
of Europeīs top roots-rock act.
Their well mixed gumbo of all the good southern spices with New Orleans & Mississippi RīnīB, vintage Country and Rockabilly
has stood out and became a much appreciated band of their own. The guys have released 6 albums which these days are being
re-issued on their new label Sonic Rendezvous.
Together they will make a mark on the music scene everywhere and knock your socks right off!! |
